Statement by the President of the World Peace Organization, Prof. Dr. H. Bambang Herry Purnomo, S.H., M.H., on the occasion of World Patient Safety Day – 17 September 2026

Theme 2026: Safe care for every newborn and every child.

On the occasion of World Patient Safety Day 2026, I, as President of the World Peace Organization (WPO), extend my heartfelt message of solidarity, commitment, and hope to all health workers, families, and children around the world.

This year’s theme, “Safe care for every newborn and every child,” reminds us of a fundamental truth: Peace begins with life itself. There can be no sustainable peace if our most vulnerable — newborns and children — are not safe in the very places meant to protect them.

Patient safety is not merely a medical protocol. It is a humanitarian imperative. It is a matter of human rights, dignity, and justice. From the Emergency Room (IGD - Emergency) as the first gate of care, to neonatal units and pediatric wards, safety must be embedded as a culture, not just a checklist.

At WPO, we recognize the extraordinary dedication of doctors, nurses, and all frontline health workers who work tirelessly in emergency rooms and hospitals worldwide. Their commitment to saving lives is the purest form of peace-building.

Today, I call upon governments, hospitals, international health institutions, and all humanitarian partners to:

1. Strengthen patient safety systems starting from emergency care.

2. Ensure zero preventable harm for every newborn and child.

3. Invest in training, technology, and compassionate care.
   

Let us remember: Every child saved today is a peacemaker for tomorrow.

On behalf of the World Peace Organization, I reaffirm our commitment through our global movement — Peace is a Must — to advocate for a world where safe healthcare is a right, not a privilege.
