MBG AS A PLANET: INDONESIA’S TECHNOLOGY DOWNSTREAMING BLUEPRINT

JAKARTA – MBG is not merely a sectoral program. Based on strategic analysis, MBG is conceptualized as a PLANET — an integrated ecosystem for energy and technology downstreaming to accelerate Indonesia’s economic transformation toward becoming a developed nation by 2045.

According to the Deputy Secretary-General of the World Peace Organization for Education, Culture, IT, and Human Resources Development, Dra. Yenny Agoestian, MBA, Ph.D:

“MBG as a PLANET represents Indonesia’s orbital shift in the global technology constellation. From a peripheral nation that imports technology, to an epicenter of gravity for new-energy-based innovation. This is a transition from a resource-based economy to an innovation-driven economy.”

The Conceptual Framework of MBG PLANET:

P – Plant: Cross-sector vertical industrialization of primary industries. The comprehensive conversion of upstream commodities — critical minerals, agricultural products, plantations, fisheries, and livestock — into high-value-added manufactured goods through value chain upgrading.

L – Large-scale: Implementation at a macroeconomic scale with a national multiplier effect. The development of five Special Technology-Based Energy Economic Zones as Special Technology Zones to achieve economies of scale and industrial clustering.

A – Advanced: Adoption of frontier technology and deep tech across the entire value chain. Focus on Generation IV nuclear reactors, Small Modular Reactors, advanced materials, and AI-IoT integration in smart manufacturing systems. A technological leapfrogging strategy to close the development gap.

N – New: Reconstruction of the national economic paradigm. A structural transition from comparative advantage based on natural resources to competitive advantage based on innovation, R&D, and intellectual property mastery. Export orientation shifts toward technology products and energy services.

E – Energy: Energy sovereignty as the prime mover. Development of peaceful nuclear energy as zero-emission baseload power to support energy-intensive industries. Adhering to the 3E+1S principle: Energy Security, Economic Efficiency, Environmental Sustainability, and Safety.

T – Technology: End-to-end mastery of the nuclear science and technology spectrum. Covering the front-end fuel cycle, reactor design and engineering, component fabrication, operations & maintenance, and back-end waste management. Target: technological self-sufficiency with over 80% Local Content (TKDN) by 2040.

Through the MBG-as-PLANET architecture, Indonesia is systematically breaking free from the resource curse and the middle-income trap. This downstreaming model converts uranium, thorium, and critical minerals into clean electricity, which then serves as input for industrialization. The final output is the creation of 2.1 million high-quality jobs, an increase in manufacturing GDP, and a surplus in the technology trade balance.
